Ferti-irrigation efficient management for soil based strawberry cultivation

A compilation of the data obtained during the field studies to understand the influence of different irrigation tapes; achieve ferti-irrigation efficient water-nutrients management in conventional cultivation, in soil; maintain the water only in the plant’s root zone and avoid any water with nutrients leaching.

Recirculation systems for soilless cultivation

4 soilless cultivation systems in real field condition - no water recirculation, recirculation without disinfection, recirculation with oinized oxygen and recirculation with ozone – are considered in order to find the best solution with respect to crop performance and water and nutrients recovery. Expected benefits from the application of electrodialysis to prevent Na+ accumulation are also discussed. The results show that it is possible to reduce by over 40% the water consumption maintaining the same fruit quality (weight, firmness and Brix grade) and yield (early production, first production, second production, total production)

Report on water disinfection monitoring

Results from the research on technologies to control the concentration of pathogens in irrigation water in soil cultivation and on the effectiveness of two disinfection systems on recirculated water in soilless cultivation.

Laboratory tests of water treatment and decontamination technologies for process water in fresh cut industry

Results from lab-scale testing of of small scale combined and hybrid water treatment technologies for cold water reuse and decontamination/disinfection in the fresh-cut industry.

Laboratory tests of treatment & decontamination technologies for process water in fruit juice industries

Results from the lab-scale testing of  recycling of warm water and waste streams for processing purposes. Reusing condensed water safely in the apple juice processing line is studied.

The optimum disinfection treatment according to the bactericide effectiveness & impact on vegetables

Evaluation of  the effectiveness of chlorine and other sanitizer agents on produce and on washing water. Various sanitizing techniques, their efficacy and usefulness in being applied to control the microbial load on the real conditions of fresh-cut processing are investigated.

Report on comparison and selection of optimal detection methods

Results from testing of several different methods for bacterial detection based on DNA (molecular methods). These strategies circumvent the need for culturing which can be cumbersome up to impossible, and lengthy. The aim is to identify  rapid, accurate, and portable methods to evaluate “real-time” quality and safety of water and food.

Device design and performance for bacterial detection

Description of the rapid, accurate, cost effective, reliable, and portable device to evaluate “real-time” quality and safety of water, integrated on the production floor. The device is based on the novel optical biosensor designed by Technion.
