The RESFOOD project is a succesful model of innovation for the food and water sector

A large and targeted participation of 100 delegates including organisations involved in the food production chain and in water technologies, industries, SMEs’, associations, researchers and policy makers attended the conference.

The conference was the occasion to launch the ‘Water and Food Innovation’ dialogue for inclusive green growth in Europe, an initiative of the European Technology Platforms WssTP and Food for Life. As highlighted by Beate Kettlitz, FoodDrink Europe and Jochen Froebrich, WssTP WG Water and AgriFood, this dialogue will form the basis for unleashing new business potentials on both sides.  More info here.

Water and resource efficiency for the European food chain” conference was primarily the place to present the innovative solutions developed by the RESFOOD team to boost efficiency and close water, energy and materials cycles in the European food chain. Ranging  from efficient ferti-irrigation practices to biosensing methods for bacteria detection and to improved extraction techniques from food by-products, RESFOOD tools have the potential to impact on the European food sector in the near future. As also remarked by Janneke Van-Veen, Policy Officer at  the EC DG Research and Innovation, RESFOOD was successful in looking at the different parts of the value chain thus favouring a systemic change.

The conference featured discussions on the exploitation of project results to prepare the final users on the implementation of the project technologies. The devices and prototype systems developed by the RESFOOD partners were showcased.

The exploitation potential of RESFOOD was also made clear through its links with the next funding opportunities for research and innovation within Horizon 2020. The RESFOOD Scientific Officer at the European Commission Mr. Klimek briefed participants on upcoming calls, followed by the presentation of project ideas addressing 6 different topics of the H2020 2016 calls related to water, agro-food, sustainable process industries themes.

Attendees and other sector researchers and stakeholders are invited to express their interest to join the proposal building by submitting this form.
